A person was injured after a portion of a slab from the second floor collapsed onto the first floor of a residential building in Thane West on Monday, officials said.
The incident was reported around 10:05 am at Matoshree Society near Nutan Sneh Reshma Building in the Panchpakhadi area.
The affected structure, Matoshree Building, is a ground-plus-four-storey building aged around 35-36 years and classified as C2B category.
According to the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) Disaster Management Cell, the slab from Bedroom in Room No. 205 on the second floor (owned by Sunita Amle) collapsed into Room No. 105 on the first floor (owned by Rima Suve).
The injured person, identified as Anant Laxman Mhatre (49), sustained injuries to his leg, hand and nose. He was shifted to Thane District Government Hospital for treatment.
Senior civic officials, including corporators Narayan Pawar and Rajesh More, along with the Assistant Commissioner of Uthalsar Ward Committee, Disaster Management Officer, engineering staff, and teams from the encroachment and building departments, rushed to the site.
A pickup van and emergency response teams were deployed at the site. Authorities carried out a preliminary assessment and initiated further action.
Officials said a detailed structural inspection of the building is underway to assess safety and determine further steps.
In a separate incident, a 75-year-old man was killed in Mumbai after a portion of a residential structure collapsed in Bhandup West on Saturday morning, officials said.
As per the officials, the incident was reported at around 9:45 am from Tulshipada, Patkar Compound, where part of the slab on the first floor of a ground-plus-one (G+1) structure gave way.
As soon as the authorities were alerted about the incident, they immediately reached the spot. According to initial information, the collapse led to serious injuries to one person. He was rushed to Navkar Hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead at 9:52 am.
The deceased has been identified as Susai Devdas Kaunder, a 75-year-old resident of Bhandup (West).
Furthermore, authorities are assessing the condition of the structure and surrounding buildings to prevent further mishaps.
While the exact cause of the collapse is yet to be determined, officials suspect structural weakness may have played a role in the unfortunate incident.
Further investigation is underway.
