Maharashtra transporters postpone strike for a week after state govt assurance

The proposed strike by transporters against the e-challan system and other pending demands has been postponed for a week after the Maharashtra government assured that the issues raised by the transporters will be taken up and addressed.

According to officials, the decision to defer the strike was taken following a request from the state government, which appealed to transport unions to reconsider the agitation in view of several ongoing developments.

The strike, which was scheduled to begin from Thursday midnight, has now been put on hold temporarily.

Government assures discussion on demands

Transporters had earlier announced the strike to protest against the implementation of the e-challan system and several other operational issues affecting the transport sector.

Following discussions with representatives of the transporters, the state government assured them that their concerns would be positively considered and steps would be taken to resolve the issues.

Based on these assurances, the transporters agreed to postpone the agitation for one week, giving the government time to initiate discussions and address the demands.

Appeal made due to exams and state budget

The government had urged transporters to reconsider the strike considering the ongoing school examinations, which could have affected the movement of students and essential services.

Officials also cited the upcoming state budget session and the prevailing war situation in West Asia as reasons to avoid disruptions in transport services at this time.

Authorities said maintaining smooth transport operations was important to prevent inconvenience to citizens and ensure the uninterrupted movement of goods and passengers.
