The Maharashtra cabinet on Tuesday unveiled a new housing policy aimed at slum rehabilitation and redevelopment, backed by a substantial investment of Rs 70,000 crore.

Talking to reporters after the cabinet meeting, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said the policy focuses on housing for the common man with the motto "My Home, My Right", reported news agency PTI.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis stated that the policy prioritises low-income groups, senior citizens, women, industrial workers and students.

According to PTI, the policy comprises a comprehensive programme from slum rehabilitation to redevelopment, with an investment of Rs 70,000 crore.

The chief minister stated that affordable and inclusive housing for working women, senior citizens and students has been considered, and issues of rental housing and creating land banks have been addressed.

"All stakeholders and schemes will be brought on a single portal, 'Maha Awaas'. Government land will be mapped and made available for housing. Sustainability will be an important factor in housing and will be brought in with modern technology. After 2007, a comprehensive and dynamic all-inclusive policy has been formulated," CM Fadnavis stated, reported PTI.

CM Fadnavis said vertical slums and SRA buildings are being given incentives for rehabilitation.

Fadnavis noted that the new policy considers the housing needs of urban and rural areas.

Maharashtra CM Fadnavis warns banks against demanding CIBIL scores for farm loans

Banks will face action if they ask for CIBIL scores from farmers as a condition for disbursing agricultural loans, said Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis during a meeting of the state-level bankers committee he chaired on Monday, as he directed the banks to disburse agricultural loans to farmers.

In the meeting, Fadnavis mentioned that farmers are the backbone of the state and agriculture is a major part of its economy. He stated that if agriculture loans are not provided to farmers, in many cases, it even leads to farmer suicide.

"This is a serious issue. If banks ask for a CIBIL score from farmers while processing agriculture loans, the respective financial institution will face stern action," the CM warned.

Fadnavis mentioned that a target has been set for agriculture loans to be given by banks. "In order to meet these targets, nationalised banks should make special efforts to increase the agriculture loan disbursement and meet the set goals," the CM added.
