The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a forecast and warning for Maharashtra, with thunderstorms, lightning, rain and gusty winds expected at isolated places across parts of Konkan and Madhya Maharashtra on Wednesday, September 30.
The Regional Meteorological Centre, Colaba, Mumbai, issued the bulletin at 11:58 am on Wednesday.
The forecast is valid from 8:30 am on September 30 to October 4.
Several districts have been placed under a yellow alert for Wednesday, with weather conditions expected to ease from Thursday, October 1.
The IMD has forecast thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, light to moderate rain and gusty winds of 30-40 kmph at isolated places in Thane, Raigad, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Ahilyanagar, Pune, Kolhapur, Satara and Sangli.
Similar conditions have been forecast over the Ghats of Nashik on September 30.
Stronger gusty winds of 40-50 kmph have been forecast at isolated places over the Ghats of Pune, Satara and Kolhapur.
Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and light to moderate rain are also likely in these areas.
Mumbai, Palghar and Nashik are likely to receive light to moderate rain or thundershowers on Wednesday.
Although these districts are outside the yellow alert, the IMD has categorised the forecast rainfall activity as "Very Likely".
Solapur is expected to receive light to moderate rain or thundershowers through the five-day forecast period.
Dhule, Nandurbar, Jalgaon, Beed and Dharashiv are likely to receive light rain on Wednesday, with dry conditions expected from Thursday.
Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Jalna, Parbhani, Hingoli, Nanded and Latur are forecast to remain dry throughout the five-day period.
No weather warning has been issued for Akola, Amravati, Bhandara, Buldhana, Chandrapur, Gadchiroli, Gondia, Nagpur, Wardha, Washim and Yavatmal.
According to the IMD warning maps, the yellow alert zone is concentrated over Konkan and parts of Madhya Maharashtra on September 30.
From October 1, the entire state is expected to move into the green alert, although light rain and thundershowers may continue in several districts.
