Maharashtra weather update: State bakes under heat as Wardha hits 41.5 degrees Celsius

Maharashtra continued to reel under intense heat on Monday, with Vidarbha emerging as the hottest region while most parts of the state recorded dry conditions and above-normal temperatures, according to IMD data.

Wardha sizzled at 41.5 degrees Celsius, the highest maximum temperature recorded in the state, while nearby Vidarbha districts also remained extremely hot - Amravati and Gondia at 40.4 degrees Celsius, Jalgaon at 40.1 degrees Celsius, and Akola and Yavatmal close behind in the high 39 degrees Celsius range.

Brahmapuri recorded 40.4 degrees Celsius, highlighting widespread heatwave-like conditions across eastern Maharashtra.

Marathwada stays hot and dry

In Marathwada, temperatures also stayed high with Parbhani at 38.4 degrees Celsius, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar at 38.3 degrees Celsius, and Nanded at 39.6 degrees Celsius, indicating persistent hot and dry weather across the region.

Central Maharashtra sees above-normal temperatures

In Central Maharashtra, Pune's Shivajinagar recorded a maximum of 35.9 degrees Celsius, with a minimum of 25 degrees Celsius, while Solapur touched 38.8 degrees Celsius. Nashik remained relatively moderate at 34.7 degrees Celsius, but still above seasonal norms.

Konkan sees humidity, light relief in Mumbai

Konkan and coastal Maharashtra saw slightly higher humidity, with Mumbai's island city recording 35.0 degrees Celsius and the suburbs at 35.2 degrees Celsius, while Alibag touched 34.9 degrees Celsius. Light rainfall was reported in Mumbai at 0.1 mm, offering only brief relief from the heat.

Dry conditions persist across Maharashtra

The IMD report also indicated dry conditions across most stations, with no significant rainfall recorded in the majority of Maharashtra, reinforcing the ongoing pre-monsoon heat pattern.

Mahabaleshwar remains the only cool pocket

Meanwhile, the lowest minimum temperature in the state was recorded at Mahabaleshwar (18.2 degrees Celsius), providing the only cool pocket amid widespread heat.

Meteorologists have forecast that skies over Pune will remain mainly clear to partly cloudy, with maximum temperatures hovering around 36 degrees Celsius and minimums near 25 degrees Celsius, suggesting continued warm conditions in the coming days.

Overall, Maharashtra remains under the grip of pre-monsoon heat stress, with Vidarbha bearing the brunt of soaring temperatures while Konkan sees isolated relief.
