Major fire breaks out at godown in Navi Mumbai

A major fire broke out at a private firm's godown at Pali Phata near Navi Mumbai's Khalapur toll plaza on Wednesday evening


A major fire broke out inside a warehouse of Silicon International product company at Pali Phata near Navi Mumbai's Khalapur toll plaza on Wednesday evening.

Officials from Panvel fire station said that they received a call at around 6.00 pm, after which a fire tanker was rushed to the spot. The godown is situated very close to the Mumbai-Pune Expressway, as a result of which smoke covered the road for some time.

Fire officials from New Panvel fire station revealed that around 2,000 drums containing 200 litres of runner liquid each were destroyed in the fire

PSI V.V Patil from Mahamarg highway traffic, Boreghat, said, "There was no traffic disruption on the Mumbai-Pune expressway. For a while the smoke had come on the highway, however, we assisted the vehicles and there were no traffic snarls."

The fire was brought into control by late night on Wednesday.

No casualties have been reported in the entire incident.
