In a fit of rage, an auto driver stabbed his wife following a fight over her cell phone. He waited for two hours while she died and when he was sure she was dead, he surrendered himself to the MHB colony police.

The man, identified as Vijay Kambli, married Jyoti (28) 12 years ago. They lived at Dharma Nagar, Borivli (East), with their five-year-old son and Kambli's younger brother Ajay.

According to the police, Kambli suspected his wife of having an extramarital affair, as she would be busy talking on the phone till late night and her phone used to be busy whenever he called her. Both would constantly fight over the issue.

On Monday afternoon, Kambli called her up but her phone was switched off. Irritated by this, he began checking her phone when he reached home at 9 pm to see her call logs. Seeing her husband fidgeting with her phone, she snatched her phone and began arguing again. The fight turned violent when Kambli grabbed a kitchen knife and stabbed her in the stomach resulting in her falling on the floor.

As Jyoti fell, Kambli left her on the floor and sat on the bed observing her. Two hours later, when he was sure that Jyoti had died, he approached the MHB Colony police station and surrendered himself.

"We have arrested Kambli for murder under Section 302 of the IPC. We visited the spot and found Jyoti's body in a pool of blood. The body was sent for an autopsy to the Bhagwati hospital," said Suresh Kinjle, senior police inspector of the MHB Colony police station. "We are recording the statement of Kambli's brother Ajay who is a bus driver and neighbours to find out about the relation between the couple."u00a0
