Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) Spokesperson Gajanan Kale on Tuesday questioned the Maharashtra government over protests taking place across the state and criticised Chief Minister (CM) Devendra Fadnavis over his remarks on the party's ‘Garjana Morcha' in Mumbai.

Speaking at a press conference, Kale also raised the issue of tribal students protesting over their demands and questioned the government's response to demonstrations in Mumbai and other parts of Maharashtra.

‘Many will need Burnol': Kale on MNS Garjana Morcha

Kale hit back at Fadnavis over his reported description of the MNS protest as a gathering of "chirkuts", or insignificant people.

"The way the Garjana Morcha happened, so grandly in Mumbai, many people will need Burnol," Kale said, taking a dig at those who criticised the rally.

He also asked Fadnavis to visit rural areas and interact with teachers, students and people at the grassroots level to understand the issues they face.

Kale questions police action against tribal students

Kale also questioned the government over the protests by tribal students from Nashik and other parts of Maharashtra.

He said students from tribal schools and ashrams had been protesting over their basic needs and had travelled to Mumbai to raise their demands at Azad Maidan, a designated protest venue.

According to Kale, the students were not allowed to stage their protest at Azad Maidan and subsequently went to Congress' Tilak Bhavan. He alleged that police entered the premises and removed the protesting students, including several tribal girls.

"What is going on in Maharashtra?" Kale asked.

MNS raises Pradeep Purnekar murder case

Kale also referred to the alleged murder of Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Pradeep Purnekar in Thane and questioned the status of the investigation.

He alleged that the accused in the case had not yet been arrested and questioned the government's response to the issue while peaceful student protests were being dealt with by the authorities.

The MNS spokesperson said his party opposed what he described as the Maharashtra government's treatment of protesting students.

Kale asks Fadnavis to engage with opposition, students

Kale questioned why Fadnavis had not held discussions with opposition leaders and students protesting against various government decisions and issues.

"Why is the Maharashtra CM not speaking to the opposition leaders and the youth and students opposing the rules and things happening there? There has been no discussion yet. Why is that?" he asked.
