Mumbai: Doctor says he resigned, JJ Hospital says paper work remains

Dr Pranav Ghodgaonkar, one of those mentioned on JJ's errant list, says he submitted his resignation to Dr Vernon Velho, then HOD of neuro surgery at JJ Dr Ghodgaonkar, who now heads the neurosurgery department at Indore's CHL Group of Hospitals, told sunday mid-day over the phone that he came to JJ in 2010 to complete the Master of Chirurgiae (MCH) Neurosurgery, a three-year course, and was later absorbed as assistant professor in the department.

The 41-year-old said multiple reasons forced him to resign. "In 2010, I submitted my resignation to the HOD and left the hospital. Two months after, I received a reminder letter from the hospital saying I was absent from duty. At that time, I responded to the dean that I had resigned. A few years ago, I received another reminder to which I sent two letters, one to the DMER and another to the Dean informing of my 2010 resignation which was submitted via proper channels," he added. "If the suspension letter arrives, it doesn't make a difference. I am happy with my work here in Indore," he adds.

Dr TP Lahane said that while Dr Ghodgaonkar may have resigned, he hasn't paid his dues and completed the formalities required. Due to this, the hospital considered his status absconding. "The concerned doctor was supposed to submit one month's pay and an extra amount to complete his formal resignation. Since he didn't visit the centre to complete the formalities, his documents have remained incomplete. So, we finally announced that he has absconded," said Lahane.
