While Bandra, Andheri and Borivli are also in contention, sources claim Dadar has the advantage of being the common point for WR and CR and can be easily accessible by officials from both the railways

Living up to his promise of overhauling the city's fatigued rail network, Union Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu is looking forward to set up his office in the city to watch over the proceedings.

Highly placed sources in the ministry claimed that Dadar, Bandra, Andheri and Borivli are the locations chosen for setting up the office. The office will either be close to the station or on the station premises.

"We are scrutinising these locations. The minister is yet to finalise one," said a senior railway official. Sources claimed that while every railway minister has an office in the hometown he or she hails from, it would be the first-ever for a Union railway minister to have an office in Maharashtra.

The setup will be used to meet railway officials, party functionaries, and hold public meetings. They further claimed that the office is likely to be set up on a railway plot between Dadar and Matunga stations on the Central line, as Dadar is a common point for the Western and Central Railways and easily accessible for officials from both the railways.

During his previous visit to the city, Prabhu met general managers of both the railways at his residence in Khar. Even the MPs thronged his residence to express their displeasure over the poor maintenance practices adopted by the railways, leading to myriad technical failures and disruption of train services. It was during this visit that the idea to have a separate office for Prabhu was first proposed.
