Charkop Police recover 381 stolen mobile phones (Representational image)
Mumbai's Charkop Police have recovered 381 stolen and snatched mobile phones from different states and returned them to their rightful owners as part of a special drive carried out through technical investigation.
Mumbai Police while issuing an official statement, said, "The drive was conducted from January 1 to August 19, 2026, on the instructions of senior police officers. The Cyber Officer and staff of Charkop Police Station used technical investigation methods to trace mobile phones reported stolen or snatched and recover them from various parts of the country."
Since 2020, Charkop Police Station has registered 2,560 complaints related to stolen and snatched mobile phones. Of these, police have so far recovered 925 mobile phones.
The official statement also added that in 2026, police received 670 complaints concerning mobile phone theft and snatching. The press note states that 319 mobile phones were recovered through technical investigation and handed back to their original owners.
In a recent drive to recover stolen mobile phones, Mumbai Police managed to recover a total of 381 smartphones. The recovered devices include 60 Samsung phones, 56 Vivo phones, 54 Redmi phones, 46 Oppo phones, 45 OnePlus phones, 38 Motorola phones, 29 Poco phones, 20 Nothing phones and 16 Apple iPhones.
Police also recovered 10 Teco, five Tecno and two Google mobile phones, taking the total in the company-wise table to 381.
The operation was conducted under the guidance of DCP North Division-2 Sandeep Ghuge, Assistant Commissioner of Police Maheshkumar Thakur and Senior Police Inspector Mahesh Balwant Rao of Charkop Police Station, along with other police officers and personnel.
The recovery drive highlights the role of technical investigation in tracing stolen and snatched mobile phones, including devices that had moved outside Mumbai and Maharashtra.
