Eleven juveniles were sent to a remand home by a local court after it was proved that the group was involved in stealing two-wheelers from Antop Hill on Monday. All the boys confessed to their crime and said they had done it for fun.

The boys were in the habit of taking joy rides on stolen bikes, and dumping them as soon as the petrol ran out. Officials from Wadala Truck Terminal police station said all the boys were booked under sections 379 (punishment for theft) of the Indian Penal Code and were produced in the court yesterday, a day after their detention.

A police officer said, "They were first pulled up on Monday night by our officers on patrolling duty, after they spotted three people on a motorcycle. The trio dumped the motorcycle and fled the spot. We picked up one of them from his residence in Vijay Nagar, as one of our staffers recognised him."

During questioning, the juvenile disclosed the involvement of 10 others. Later, four separate cases of bike thefts were registered at the police station, following which the remaining juveniles were detained. Senior Police Inspector Suhas Garud from Wadala Truck Terminal police station said, "We had five cases of bike theft registered at the police station and we succeeded in recovering all five vehicles.

Beside, several of the juveniles are history-sheeters. One of them is even wanted in an attempt to murder case." He added that they had information that the group had more bikes in their possession, but they could not question them as the court sent them to the remand home.
