Mumbai Crime: Raincoat-wearing robber arrested from Dahisar

A thief, who used to rob homes and shops dressed in a raincoat, has been arrested by the Shil Daighar police. The cops' action came after a recent theft at a mobile store where expensive phones were stolen

A 27-year old thief, who used to rob homes and shops dressed in a raincoat, has been arrested by the Shil Daighar police. The cops' action came after a recent theft at a mobile store where expensive mobile phones were stolen.

While investigating the matter, the cops came across CCTV footage where a man was seen breaking into the mobile store in Thane wearing gloves, a raincoat and a mask. The man has over thirteen cases of house break-ins against him in Mumbai, Thane and Navi Mumbai, The police said the man thief to wear a knee-length raincoat along with gloves to protect his identity and avoid being captured in CCTVs installed on the premises he was robbing.

A police officer said, "On checking the CCTV footage we found two thieves robbing the shop, one of whom was dressed in a raincoat, gloves and a mask."

After finding him in CCTV footage of the burgled shop in Thane, the cops activated their sources and learned that the man was a habitual offender and had committed many such thefts in the same manner.

The thief was identified as Anwar Shaikh, 27, who committed the robberies along with an aide, Ali Shaikh, 23. The cops learned that the two were to come to Thakurpada in Dahisar to meet another accused, identified as Nizam Pradhan, 27, to discuss the sale of the stolen mobile phones. The police laid a trap and nabbed the accused.

A police officer said, "We have arrested the trio under various sections of the IPC. We have recovered 24 mobile phones and R2.40 lakh in cash from the accused."
