Indian cricket fans can go to any limits for their stars. Take Nitin Yadav, for instance. The youngster from Shahjahanpur made a marathon odyssey of 1280 kms to meet his favourite cricketer, Suryakumar Yadav. Starting out on August 20, Nitin made his way through sheer persistence to finally meet his idol in Mumbai. The joy for Nitin was doubled when the Indian cricketer welcomed him with an autographed jersey. That's a trophy worth biking for miles.

Forget postcards; these visitors got the real Mumbai experience. On August 23, a group of 12 Japanese volunteers swapped sightseeing for safai by joining a beach clean-up at Juhu Koliwada. Part of a 42-day internship with Association internationale des etudiants en sciences economiques et Commerciales (AIESEC), the volunteers explored cleanliness challenges across the city, besides slum visits. "The idea is to make foreign exchange students understand India's cleanliness issues while giving them a chance to contribute and know the cultural differences," says Abdul Munaf, founder-director, Gully Classes Foundation.

For the last few days, Indian fans of Grammy Award-winner Olivia Dean have been on tenterhooks. The Man I Need singer teased fans with an Indian flag, followed by âSee you soon...' on her Instagram stories. Now, it is officially announced that the 27-year-old British singer-songwriter will follow her breakthrough year by making her India debut as headliner at the upcoming Lollapalooza Festival in January 2027. Speaking of teasers, the chatter around the music biz is that noughties chartbusters and nu-metal band Limp Bizkit might follow Dean's path to Mumbai on the Lolla stage. Though their official tour schedule has not confirmed it yet, they might still take a look around.

The thread to a long-standing musical legacy was cut with the passing of Antoinette Gomes (above inset). The matriarch of the Furtados family passed away on Monday, August 31.
In 1953, Antoinette's husband, the late John Gomes, purchased the landmark BX Furtado & Sons in Dhobi Talao. Since then, the family has been an indelible part of the city's musical legacy. A song that now plays a little sadder.
