Mumbai: Family of 4 has narrow escape after car bursts into flames

A family of four heading home from a dinner party had the shock of their lives when their car suddenly burst into flames on the Kalanagar flyover last night.

The only warning they got was the smell of smoke, before they jumped out of the car and watched it burn before their eyes. Rafiq Mirza, who was at the wheel, recalled, "As soon as I opened the bonnet, I realised it had caught fire. I immediately shouted for my family to get out." One of the family members, Khatija Bano said they were heading to Jogeshwari.

"We all went blank. A few fellow commuters called the emergency numbers. Even thinking about it now makes me shiver," she said.
