A fire broke out in eight to 12 Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport's (BEST's) new compressed natural gas (CNG) buses at the Anik Bus Depot on Padmabhusan Vasantdada Patil Road, near the Regional Transport Office (RTO) passing area in Sion, Mumbai, on Monday evening, the Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB) said in its latest update, issued at 6.15 pm.
BEST had earlier confirmed to mid-day.com that around 10 buses were engulfed in the fire.
According to the MFB, it received information about the incident at 5.44 pm and declared it a Level-I fire call at 5.54 pm.
Four fire engines, five jumbo tankers, one advanced water tender and a quick response vehicle, along with an ambulance, were deployed to the spot. The MFB, police, and BEST Traffic and ward staff were mobilised to the site.
The fire was confined to 8 to 10 BEST CNG buses, according to the latest update. No injuries have been reported so far.

A fire broke out on Monday afternoon at a temporary shooting set located behind Prime Focus Studio in Film City, Goregaon (East), officials said, adding that no injuries were reported in the incident.
Emergency services responded swiftly, extinguishing the blaze within 50 minutes. It was a Level 1 (minor) blaze, they said.
According to officials from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's (BMC) Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB), the incident was reported at 16:02 hrs.
The fire broke out in a Production Control Room (PCR) unit measuring approximately 100 feet by 20 feet within a temporary set structure erected behind Reliance Media Works and Prime Focus Studio.
The blaze was confined to electrical wiring, installations, cables, doors, wooden planks, bamboo, plastic materials, air conditioning units, sound systems, and various shooting equipment stored inside the unit.
Multiple emergency response agencies were immediately deployed to the site, including teams from the Mumbai Fire Brigade, local police personnel, BMC ward control officers, and 108 Ambulance services.
Firefighters managed to bring the situation under control and fully extinguish the blaze, officials said.

The Mumbai Fire Brigade's (MFB) first-ever maintenance training for firefighters is underway, with the first batch of 40 personnel completing the course on October 3.
MFB officials told mid-day that 120 firefighters will undergo the Maintenance Technician Course (MTC) across three batches, with the course expected to conclude by October-end marking the conclusion of the 11-month training schedule that has upskilled 20-30 per cent of the brigade's 2577-strong workforce.
