A Level-I fire broke out at a building in Mumbai's Bhuleshwar area on Friday, September 25, prompting the Mumbai Fire Brigade and other emergency agencies to rush to the spot. One person was reported to be stranded on the terrace of the building.
According to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), the fire was reported at around 1:15 pm on September 25 at Bhairumal House on Mumbadevi Road, near Mumbadevi Mandir in Bhuleshwar.
However, the fire was brought under control after fire brigade personnel rescued 10 people, including seven occupants stranded on the third floor and three men who had moved to the parapet wall of a nearby building after getting scared
As per the officials, the fire was confined to an electric meter cabin and two galas located on the ground floor of the ground-plus-four-storey building, the civic body said in its update.
The Mumbai Fire Brigade declared a Level-I fire call at around 1:26 pm, following which emergency personnel were mobilised to the location.
Fire brigade officials began efforts to contain the blaze and assess the situation inside the building.
Officials said that a person was reported to have been stranded on the terrace as the fire response was underway.
The exact circumstances that led to the person being on the terrace were not immediately known.
The BMC's Mumbai Fire Brigade, Mumbai Police, 108 ambulance services and BMC ward staff were mobilised as part of the emergency response.
The fire was reported at around 1.15 pm on September 25 at Bhairumal House on Mumba Devi Road, near Mumbadevi Mandir in Bhuleshwar. The Mumbai Fire Brigade declared a Level-I fire call at around 1.26 pm.
According to the latest update, the fire was confined to electrical wiring, electrical installations, the common meter cabin, a wooden staircase and electric cables in the passage on the ground floor of the ground-plus-four-storey building.
After BEST personnel disconnected the electricity supply, fire brigade officials used one small hose line and two first-aid hose lines from four motor pumps to extinguish the blaze. The fire was completely extinguished at around 2.45 pm.
Smoke had accumulated inside nearby galas on the ground floor. Fire brigade personnel carried out ventilation by opening the closed galas with the help of their keys, allowing the smoke to clear.
The incident was reported by the BMC's Mumbai Fire Brigade, with an update issued at around 1:43 pm. No injuries had been reported at the time of the update.
Further details, including the cause of the fire and the status of the person stranded on the terrace, were awaited.
