A major disruption during peak hours triggered chaos at CBD Belapur railway station after a Panvel-Wadala local train was abruptly diverted to the carshed, forcing hundreds of commuters to deboard the train midway and scramble for alternate travel options.
According to eyewitnesses, the train, which had originated from Panvel and was scheduled to head towards Wadala, was halted at Platform No. 2 at CBD Belapur. Railway authorities then announced that the service would not continue its journey and would instead be taken to the carshed for operational reasons.
The sudden announcement left passengers stranded, leading to an immediate surge of crowds on Platforms 2 and 3. Visuals from the station show an overwhelming rush, with commuters tightly packed and struggling to find space, raising serious safety concerns.
Many passengers expressed frustration over the lack of prior information and clarity. "There was no proper announcement until the last moment. Everyone had to get down at once, and now we are just waiting with no idea when the next train will come," said a commuter present at the station.
With office hours coinciding, the situation worsened as more passengers continued to arrive at the station, adding to the already dense crowd. Commuters were seen waiting anxiously for the next available local trains to continue their journey.
The incident once again highlights the vulnerability of Mumbai's suburban rail network during peak hours, where even a single disruption can snowball into large-scale commuter distress.
