Western Railway, while sharing Mumbai local train updates, on Friday said that it will operate a five-hour jumbo block on the fast lines between Santacruz and Goregaon during the intervening night of Saturday, October 24, and Sunday, October 25, to carry out maintenance work.
According to a press release issued by Western Railway Chief Public Relations Officer Vineet Abhishek, the block will be undertaken on both the Up and Down fast lines from 12.30 am to 4.30 am on Sunday.
During the block, all fast local trains will be diverted to the slow lines between Santacruz and Goregaon stations.
The block is required for maintenance work involving tracks, signalling systems and overhead equipment.
Western Railway said some suburban train services would remain cancelled due to the block. The detailed list of affected services will be available with station masters at stations across the suburban section.
Passengers have been advised to take note of the changes and plan their journeys accordingly.
Western Railway also confirmed that there will be no daytime block on its suburban section on Sunday, October 25.
Meanwhile, earlier this month, the Western Railway had said that it detected 15.49 lakh cases of ticketless and irregular travel, including unbooked luggage, during ticket-checking drives between April and September 2026, collecting fines worth Rs 116.52 crore.
The railway zone said intensive checking drives were conducted across Mumbai suburban local trains, long-distance Mail/Express trains, passenger trains and holiday special trains to curb unauthorised travel, prevent revenue leakage and promote travel discipline.
In September alone, Western Railway detected more than two lakh ticketless and irregular passengers and collected Rs 16.09 crore in fines.
Western Railway also intensified ticket checking on AC suburban local trains to prevent passengers holding general tickets from travelling in AC services.
Between April and September, around 97,000 penalty cases were detected on AC suburban services, resulting in the collection of Rs 4.33 crore.
This represented a growth of more than 170 per cent over the corresponding period last year, when around 49,000 cases were detected and Rs 1.60 crore was collected in fines.
