The Mumbai Monorail on Wednesday achieved a major milestone after receiving safety certification from the Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (CMRS) for operations under the advanced Communication-Based Train Control (CBTC) system.

The certification serves as the final safety clearance required for the introduction of CBTC-enabled Monorail services.

Following the approval from the CMRS, a proposal has been submitted to the Maharashtra government seeking permission to commence operations using the new signalling technology.

Once the state government grants its approval, the Mumbai Monorail will begin services under the CBTC system.
