According to a police source, the incident took place at 10.40 am. A police official said, "Commissioner Ahmad Javed was headed to his office at Crawford Market. The escort was following."

The source added, "The incident took place opposite Kamat Hotel on Lokmanya Tilak Marg near LT Marg police station. A taxi took a sudden turn and to prevent it from dashing into his car, the commissioner's driver swerved and dashed into another car. It was a Honda Civic and was driven by a doctor, Anjali Patil, a resident of Gamdevi in Grant Road." The commissioner's car, a Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, hit her car from behind.

According to sources, the traffic came to a halt and the CP personally checked if there was any major damage. Patil went to LT Marg police station where a traffic accident diary was filed. A police officer said, "In such minor incidents where a car is slightly damaged and no one is injured, an accident report is maintained to claim insurance."
