The Maharashtra government has approved the creation of 70 new posts in the sportsperson horse-rider cadre for the Mumbai Police's Mounted Police Unit.
The decision was issued by the Home Department through a government resolution dated September 4 (Friday). The new posts will be created by surrendering an equal number of existing posts from the Mumbai Police Commissioner's establishment and creating 70 posts in the same pay scales under the sportsperson horse-rider cadre.
The move follows a proposal submitted by the Mumbai Police Commissioner for restructuring the staffing of the Mounted Police Unit. The proposal was considered by the high-level secretaries' committee chaired by the Maharashtra Chief Secretary at its meeting on July 6.
Under the approved arrangement, the 70 existing posts to be surrendered comprise two Police Sub-Inspectors, four Assistant Police Sub-Inspectors, 16 Police Head Constables, and 48 Police Constables.
The corresponding 70 posts will be created in the sportsperson horse-rider cadre in the same pay scales.
The government resolution specifies that separate service entry rules should be prescribed for the Mounted Police Unit as an independent unit.
It also states that no posts over and above the 70 listed in the resolution will be created for the unit and that no additional funds will be provided.
Arrangements for the health, feed and stables of the horses will also have to be made from available resources, according to the resolution.
The 70 posts being surrendered comprise:
An equal number of posts will be created in the sportsperson horse-rider cadre, with the new posts carrying the same pay scales as the existing positions.
The government said the decision was issued based on the approval given by the high-level secretaries' committee and the Finance Department's concurrence.
The government resolution has been issued under the orders and in the name of the Governor of Maharashtra by Nagnath Ramchandra Jadhav, Section Officer, Home Department.
