Parel–Ambernath local train fight leaves two injured (Pic/Special arrangement)
Two passengers sustained head injuries after a fight broke out inside the luggage coach of a Parel-Ambernath local train. The incident occurred around Wednesday midnight.
The incident occurred at around 12.30 am on Thursday when an altercation between the four men turned violent inside the luggage compartment. Out of which two passengers suffered head injuries during the scuffle.
As soon as the officials were informed about the incident, the train was halted at Kalyan railway station and personnel from the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and the Government Railway Police (GRP) took charge. The injured men were immediately provided first aid and shifted on stretchers to Rukhmabai Hospital for treatment.
While briefing about the incident, Swapnil Nila, CPRO, Central Railway said, "A second incident took place inside the luggage compartment of a local train travelling from Parel to Ambernath; this occurred after midnight. There wasn't much of a crowd on the train at the time. A dispute arose regarding seat allocation, which escalated into a physical altercation."
Nila further added, "Four people were involved in the scuffle. 2 of them got off at Thakurli station, while the other 2 disembarked at Kalyan station. The 2 who got off at Kalyan received first aid there and were subsequently shifted to a hospital as required. After being taken to the hospital, it was found that one of them had sustained a head injury caused by a metal wristband. Both individuals are currently in stable condition. There is no element of foul play or any other complication involved here."
Officials said one of the passengers had sustained a more serious head injury and was later referred to Lokmanya Tilak Municipal General Hospital (Sion Hospital) for advanced medical care.
During a preliminary enquiry, the GRP found that neither of the two men was carrying a sharp weapon. According to the investigation, the injury was caused when the metal bangle (kada) worn on one passenger's wrist struck the other man's head during the physical altercation.
The GRP, Kalyan, has initiated the necessary legal proceedings in connection with the incident. Railway officials said a detailed report will be submitted after further information is received from the investigating agency.
In a separate incident during the late hours of Wednesday, a man carrying a wooden stick triggered panic among passengers at Kurla railway station on Wednesday night after he was seen running along a platform with the object in his hand, officials said.
According to railway authorities, the incident occurred at around 9:20 pm on July 15, when the man was spotted running towards the Kalyan-end of Platform No. 1 at Kurla railway station. His actions caused alarm among commuters, with videos of the incident later circulating on social media.
Security personnel deployed at the station responded immediately and apprehended the man before the situation could escalate.
During a preliminary enquiry, officials found that the individual appeared to be mentally unstable. He has since been taken into the custody of the Government Railway Police (GRP), Kurla, which is conducting further investigations and initiating the necessary legal action.
