Mumbai is likely to witness moderate rainfall on Wednesday and Thursday, followed by light to moderate showers on Friday and Saturday, before moderate showers return on Sunday, according to the India Meteorological Department's (IMD) district-wise forecast issued at 12.56 pm on Wednesday.
The probability of rainfall on all five days has been marked as "very likely".
The IMD has not issued any weather alert (yellow, orange or red) for Mumbai.
Commuters and residents can expect intermittent showers, overcast skies, and humid conditions over the next few days, but no widespread heavy rainfall is currently forecast within city limits.
In the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR), Thane district has been placed under a yellow alert for Wednesday. The IMD has forecast heavy rainfall at isolated places in Thane, with similar conditions expected on Thursday.
Raigad is also under a yellow alert, with heavy rainfall at isolated places forecast on Wednesday and the possibility of heavy to very heavy rain at isolated places on Thursday.
No alert has been issued for Palghar, with the IMD predicting moderate rainfall for the district.
Across the rest of Maharashtra, rainfall activity is expected to remain varied, with several districts in the Konkan and ghat regions likely to receive heavy rain at isolated places.
Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg have been placed under a yellow alert, with heavy rainfall forecast at isolated places in both districts on Wednesday.
The ghat areas of Nashik and Satara have also been placed under a yellow alert, with the possibility of heavy rainfall at isolated places.
The IMD has issued an orange alert for the Pune Ghats, warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places. The forecast raises the possibility of localised flooding, landslides in vulnerable areas and disruption to road traffic in the Western Ghats.
In contrast, several parts of Vidarbha, including Nagpur, Amravati, Akola, Bhandara, Chandrapur, Gadchiroli, Gondia, Wardha, Washim, and Yavatmal, have been placed under the IMD's "no warning" category. These districts are expected to remain largely dry or witness only light isolated rainfall activity.
Central Maharashtra districts, including Jalgaon, Nashik (plains), Ahilyanagar, Pune (plains), Satara (plains), Sangli, Solapur, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Jalna, Parbhani, Beed, Hingoli, Nanded, Latur, and Dharashiv, are likely to receive light rain or thundershowers at many places.
Isolated thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds of 30-40 kmph are also possible in some areas later in the day.
The IMD has advised residents in heavy rainfall zones to remain cautious of waterlogging in low-lying areas, possible uprooting of weak trees and disruption to local transport.
People have also been advised to avoid taking shelter under tall trees during thunderstorms, unplug electrical appliances if necessary and keep farm animals indoors in areas likely to witness lightning activity.
The weather system is being closely monitored, and further updates will be issued based on evolving monsoon conditions. Citizens are advised to follow the latest IMD bulletins and local traffic advisories, especially while travelling through ghat sections and low-lying areas of the Konkan and western Maharashtra.
