Mumbai weather: Cloudy skies, light to moderate rain likely across city today

Mumbai is expected to witness a cloudy sky with the possibility of light to moderate rain across the city and suburbs on Monday, according to the weather update issued at 8 am.

As per the Indian Meteorological Department, Mumbai, Thane, and Raigad are expected to receive intermittent showers throughout the day, with no major weather warning issued for the city.

The maximum temperature is expected to remain around 29.9 degrees Celsius, while the minimum is likely to be 25.4 degrees Celsius, as per IMD.

Rainfall across Mumbai

As per the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), the eastern suburbs received the highest rainfall (65.77 mm) during the 24-hour period starting 8 am on Sunday, August 2. The western suburbs recorded 44.37 mm, while the island city received 19.56-mm rainfall during the same period.

High tide forecast

BMC has also released the tidal forecast. A high tide of 4.27 metres is expected at 2.43 pm, while another high tide of 3.84 metres is predicted at 3.16 am on Tuesday.

A low tide of 1.06 metres is expected at 8.50 pm on Monday, followed by another low tide of 1.53 metres at 8.42 am on Tuesday.

Residents, particularly those in low-lying and flood-prone areas, are advised to remain cautious during periods of heavy showers, especially around the afternoon high tide, which could affect water drainage in some parts of the city.

Mumbai's water stock reaches 90.06 per cent

Mumbai's seven lakes, which supply drinking water to the city, collectively held 13,03,500 million litres of water, or 90.06 per cent of their total live storage capacity, as of 6 am on Monday, according to the Hydraulic Engineer's Department at the Bhandup Master Control Centre.

The current stock now goes higher than the same period last year, when the reservoirs contained 12,89,455 million litres (89.09 per cent). Furthermore, the lake levels remain significantly higher than 2024, when the lakes had 11,86,197 million litres, accounting for 81.96 per cent of the total live storage.

Modak Sagar, Vihar remain full

Among the seven reservoirs, Modak Sagar, Vihar, and Tulsi continued to remain at 100 per cent live storage, with Tansa at 99.58 per cent.

Middle Vaitarna was at 92.15 per cent, while Bhatsa, the city's largest reservoir, was 88.43 per cent full. The Upper Vaitarna remained the lowest-filled lake at 80.14 per cent.
