Mumbai is likely to witness a partly cloudy sky with the possibility of thunderstorms in the city and suburbs on Tuesday, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

The weather department has also forecast hot and humid conditions across the metropolis, with temperatures expected to remain above seasonal comfort levels. The maximum temperature is likely to hover around 34 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature is expected to be close to 28 degrees Celsius.

Hot and Humid Conditions to Persist

Residents are likely to experience warm and muggy weather throughout the day, with intermittent cloud cover providing only limited relief from the humidity. The IMD has indicated the possibility of isolated thunderstorms and brief spells of rain in some parts of the city, particularly during the latter half of the day.

Meteorologists have advised citizens to remain hydrated and take necessary precautions while spending extended periods outdoors, especially during afternoon hours when heat and humidity levels are expected to peak.

Mumbai's Air Quality Remains in Satisfactory Category

Despite the prevailing hot and humid weather conditions, Mumbai's air quality continued to remain within the "Satisfactory" category on Tuesday.

According to data available on the Central Pollution Control Board's (CPCB) SAMEER application, the city's overall Air Quality Index (AQI) stood at 62. An AQI reading in this range indicates that air quality remains within acceptable limits and is unlikely to pose significant health concerns for the majority of residents.

Monitoring Stations Record Stable AQI Levels

Air quality readings recorded across various monitoring stations in Mumbai showed largely stable conditions, with most locations reporting AQI levels in the satisfactory range.

Among the key monitoring centres, Bandra Kurla Complex recorded an AQI of 89, while Kandivali registered 88. Byculla reported an AQI of 73, Ghatkopar recorded 63, and Borivali registered 64. Andheri reported one of the lowest AQI readings at 36, placing it in the "Good" category.

Colaba recorded an AQI of 113, making it the only major monitoring station among those listed to fall into the "Moderate" category. However, overall air quality across the city remained relatively stable.

Satisfactory Air Quality Across MMR

Neighbouring areas in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) also reported favourable air quality conditions.

Thane recorded an AQI of 84, while Navi Mumbai registered an AQI of 56. Both readings fall within the satisfactory category, indicating that pollution levels remained under control across the wider metropolitan region.

What AQI Levels Mean

Under CPCB guidelines, an AQI ranging between 51 and 100 is categorised as "Satisfactory", suggesting minimal health impacts for the general population. AQI values between 0 and 50 are classified as "Good", reflecting clean air conditions with little or no risk to health.
