The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Mumbai and Thane, warning of hot and humid conditions in isolated areas on Wednesday, October 14. Raigad and Ratnagiri districts have also been placed under a yellow alert as temperatures remain above normal in parts of Maharashtra.

Mumbai and its suburbs are expected to experience mainly clear skies, with the maximum temperature forecast to be around 37 degrees Celsius and the minimum around 25 degrees Celsius. The IMD has also warned of the possibility of heatwave conditions in the city and its suburbs.

Santacruz records 38.2 degrees Celsius

According to the IMD's 8.30 am weather report, the Colaba observatory in South Mumbai recorded a temperature of 36.5 degrees Celsius, while the Santacruz observatory recorded 38.2 degrees Celsius.

The readings indicate warmer conditions in the suburbs, where temperatures have climbed above the forecast maximum for the day. Residents may experience discomfort due to the combination of high temperatures and humidity, particularly during the afternoon.

The yellow alert advises people to remain cautious as hot conditions persist. Residents, especially older people, children and those working outdoors, should take precautions against heat exposure, including staying hydrated and limiting strenuous activity during the hottest part of the day.

Mumbai AQI remains in moderate category

Alongside the rising temperatures, Mumbai recorded an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 101 on Wednesday morning, placing it in the moderate category, according to the Central Pollution Control Board's SAMEER app. Air quality in this range may cause minor breathing discomfort among sensitive individuals.

Among the city's monitoring stations, Deonar recorded the highest AQI at 165. Bandra-Kurla Complex registered 125, while Colaba recorded 129. Malad reported an AQI of 107, Byculla stood at 102 and Borivali recorded 93. Ghatkopar had the lowest reading among the listed Mumbai locations, at 65, followed by Kandivali at 79.

Across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, Thane recorded an AQI of 75, while Navi Mumbai stood at 86 and Kalyan at 82.

The readings show variations in air quality across the metropolitan region, with some locations recording moderate pollution levels while others remained in the satisfactory category.
