Mumbai weather update: IMD issues yellow alert, predicts moderate to heavy showers

Mumbai is expected to witness a generally cloudy sky with moderate to heavy rainfall in the city and suburbs on Friday, according to the India Meteorological Department's (IMD) weather forecast issued at 8 am.

The weather department has issued a yellow alert for Mumbai, predicting occasional gusty winds reaching speeds of 40-50 kmph, urging residents to exercise caution while travelling, especially in areas prone to waterlogging and falling tree branches.

Between 8 am on Thursday and 8 am on Friday, the Island City recorded an average rainfall of 4.67 mm, while the eastern and western suburbs received 7.33 mm and 5.11 mm, respectively.

The high tide is expected at 1.14 pm, with a height of 4.34 metres, followed by another high tide at 1.16 am on August 1, measuring 3.93 metres.

The low tide is forecast at 7.21 pm at 1.43 metres, while another low tide is expected at 6.53 am on August 1, measuring 0.82 metres.

Water stock at 88.58 per cent as four reservoirs continue overflowing

Mumbai's seven lakes supplying drinking water to the city collectively hold 12,82,029 million litres (ML) of water, or 88.58 per cent of their total live storage capacity of 14,47,363 ML, according to the hydraulic engineer's department's report issued at 6 am on Friday, July 31.

Four lakes continue overflowing

Modak Sagar remains at 100 per cent capacity with 1,28,925 ML in storage after overflowing on July 23 at 2.07 am.

Vihar Lake, which started overflowing on July 7 at 9 pm, also continues to remain at 100 per cent capacity, holding 27,698 ML.

Tulsi Lake, which began overflowing on July 7 at 11.43 pm, is at 99.35 per cent of its live storage capacity with 7,994 ML.

Tansa Lake, which started overflowing on July 22 at 8.51 am, has reached 98.69 per cent capacity, storing 1,43,181 ML.

Storage in other lakes

Upper Vaitarna: 1,74,007 ML (76.64 per cent), after recording 68 mm rainfall in the past 24 hours.
Middle Vaitarna: 1,73,843 ML (89.83 per cent), with 36 mm rainfall.
Bhatsa: 6,26,381 ML (87.36 per cent), receiving 11 mm rainfall.
