Mumbai on Tuesday is likely to experience mainly clear skies across the city and suburbs, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). Although the city woke up to a hazy morning because of the higher AQI, the weather throughout the day is expected to be extremely pleasant. With the weather across the Island city expected to be reported as clear, the fairly cold temperature will make the atmosphere worth enjoying.

The weather agency IMD on Tuesday predicted clear skies in the city and suburbs. IMD on Friday further predicted maximum and minimum temperatures likely to be around 31 degrees Celsius and 16 degrees Celsius.

At Colaba, the minimum temperature was recorded at 21.5 degrees Celsius with 69 per cent relative humidity. No rainfall was reported, while the total seasonal rainfall so far stands at 216.3 millimetres.

As per the IMD, at the Santacruz observatory, the minimum temperature was 17.4 degrees Celsius, and humidity stood at 58 per cent. The station recorded no rain, keeping Mumbai's seasonal rainfall total at 106.6 millimetres.

Elsewhere in the Konkan region, Ratnagiri in the last 24 hours reported a minimum temperature of 18.1 degrees Celsius with 39 per cent humidity and no rainfall, while its cumulative rainfall for the season stood at 405.7 millimetres.

Furthermore, in the western Maharashtra belt, Satara reported hazy weather conditions with a minimum temperature of 12 degrees Celsius and 49 per cent humidity. Mahabaleshwar, the hill station, remained the coolest in the region with a minimum of 10 degrees Celsius and no rainfall recorded.

Mumbai's AQI continues to dip

With Mumbai's climate expected to be extremely pleasant in the coming few days, the air quality told a starkly contrasting tale. Data from the Central Pollution Control Board's SAMEER app showed that Mumbai recorded an AQI of 150 at 08.05 am on Tuesday. The readings varied significantly across neighbourhoods. Colaba and Powai reported relatively cleaner air, with AQI levels of 6 and 176, respectively, all falling within the safer part of the spectrum. These areas remained among the few pockets where air quality conditions appeared favourable.

In many other parts of the city, pollution levels continued to rise. Sion recorded an AQI of 59, Vile Parle 116, and Kurla 106, placing them in the moderate range. Deonar reported even worse conditions, with an AQI of 250 that categorised its air quality as poor. While most parts of the city experienced slightly improved AQI, Mazgaon recorded an AQI of 224, firmly placing it in the poor category. The situation was only marginally better in neighbouring regions, with Navi Mumbai recording a moderate AQI of 156 and Thane reporting 110.

Air quality categories range from good to severe, with values between 0 and 100 considered good, 101 to 200 moderate, 201 to 300 poor, 301 to 400 very poor and anything above 400 classified as severe.
