Mumbai witnessed moderate temperatures and bright sunshine on Friday, with largely stable weather conditions prevailing across the city. Clear skies dominated most areas, offering a pleasant start to the day for residents.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), temperatures are expected to range between 20 degrees Celsius and 33 degrees Celsius, consistent with recent weather trends. The relatively cool morning hours added to the comfort, while daytime conditions remained warm but manageable.
Despite favourable weather, a layer of smog was observed across several parts of Mumbai as the day progressed, leading to reduced visibility and renewed concerns over air pollution.
The hazy skyline highlighted the persistent issue of urban pollution, even during periods of otherwise stable weather. Experts warn that prolonged exposure to such conditions can lead to respiratory problems, particularly among children, senior citizens, and individuals with pre-existing health conditions.
Air quality across Mumbai showed noticeable variation, though overall conditions remained encouraging. According to data from the Centre's SAMEER app, the city's overall Air Quality Index (AQI) stood at 50 on Friday morning, placing it in the âgood' category.
However, several areas recorded slightly higher AQI levels. Bandra-Kurla Complex registered 58, Andheri East 76, and Deonar 73. Other locations such as Kandivali (65), Malad (47), and Mulund West (25) also reflected varying levels of air quality.
Comparatively better air quality was recorded in parts of South Mumbai. Areas including Worli (56), Colaba (57), and Byculla (41) remained within the satisfactory to good range.
Meanwhile, Delhi's air quality continued to remain a concern on Friday as the Air Quality Index (AQI) stayed in the âpoor' category, even as the national capital woke up to a cool and hazy morning with clear skies and a light breeze. The morning temperature settled at around 14 degrees Celsius, offering brief relief before warmer conditions set in later in the day.
According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), several monitoring stations reported varying AQI levels across the city. Anand Vihar recorded 280, North Campus 258, Wazirpur 238, Jahangirpuri 230, Dwarka Sector-8 228, Mundka 219, R K Puram 218, Bawana 213, Chandni Chowk 203, Ashok Vihar 192, Narela 184, and Sonia Vihar 178 -- all ranging from moderate to poor categories. Meanwhile, relatively better readings were observed at DTU (145), IIT Delhi (147), Mandir Marg (138), and Pusa (136).
