Mumbai’s Covid-19 cases go over 500 again, fatalities also rise

Covid-19 cases in the city continue to rise, and on Thursday the number went over 500. The Test Positivity Rate (TPR) on Thursday was 1.47 per cent. Even the cases in MMR are showing a rising trend as their number almost touched 1,000 on Thursday.

As per the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) report, 546 new cases were reported on Thursday in Mumbai after 37,007 tests. There was an increase in casualties as five deaths were recorded in the city. Of these, four had comorbidities. One death was below 40 years, while four deaths were above 60 years of age. The city's recovery rate remained constant at 97 per cent as 337 people recovered and were discharged on Thursday.

As per the state health department report, 2,384 cases were reported along with 35 deaths across the state. The state's case fatality rate remained constant at 2.12 per cent and 2,343 patients recovered and got discharged on Thursday. Currently the state has 29,560 active cases.

At least 40 per cent of the state's overall cases-998-were reported in the MMR, including cases from Mumbai. Apart from Mumbai, Thane city reported the maximum number of daily cases in the MMR with 95 new cases. It was followed by Kalyan Dombivli Municipal Corporation with 89 new cases and Navi Mumbai with 50 cases. While Raigad saw 51 cases, Panvel had 43 cases, and Vasai-Virar recorded 50 cases. MMR, excluding Mumbai, registered five deaths, while Navi Mumbai recorded 2 deaths, Raigad, Vasai-Virar and Panvel reported one death each.

No vaccination today

A press statement issued by the BMC on Thursday said, "Vaccination will be closed on Friday, October 15, 2021 at government and municipal centers in Mumbai and will resume on Saturday as the corporation has adequate stocks of COVID vaccines. A humble appeal is being made to the citizens of Mumbai to cooperate with the BMC administration."
