The Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) will start a direct bus from Dadar to Navi Mumbai International Airport via Atal Setu on Wednesday.
Maharashtra Transport Minister and MSRTC Chairman Pratap Sarnaik will inaugurate the service. Buses from Borivali, Mumbai, and from Swargate in Pune to the airport are also being started.
Dadar is one of Mumbai's main rail and bus interchanges. The direct ST link gives air passengers, office-goers and students a public transport option that does not require a change of bus.
"Connecting the airport to ST's wider network will give ordinary citizens, employees, students and air passengers a safe and reliable option," Sarnaik said. He said MSRTC, whose Lalpari buses run across the state, would add more airport services in phases so that Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Pune, Konkan and other parts of Maharashtra are linked by public transport.
Fares and timings have not been announced.
The Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) has announced that senior citizens and women passengers availing concessional travel will have to use a National Common Mobility Card (NCMC) to receive discounted tickets from October 1.
As per the officials, the new system will apply to Amrut senior citizens, senior citizens, and women passengers eligible for various concession schemes provided by the MSRTC under government directives.
While stressing about the compulsive use of NCMC cards, the corporation said that it has started the registration and distribution of NCMC cards at its depots and bus stands across Maharashtra. From October 1, concessional tickets for eligible passengers will be issued only through the NCMC system.
Passengers who already have an active NCMC card can avail of the concession. Those who have registered for the card but are yet to receive an activated card can also use the QR code provided on their registration receipt.
According to the MSRTC, passengers can scan the QR code on the registration receipt using the Electronic Ticketing Machine (ETM) carried by conductors to obtain a concessional ticket. The registration receipt will remain valid for 30 days, within which passengers are required to activate their NCMC card and top it up.
E-Bix Technologies Limited has been appointed as the authorised agency for NCMC card registration and distribution. Passengers can register at authorized centers located at MSRTC bus stands, depots, and other designated locations outside depot premises.
