Party does not give a single Youth Congress member ticket to fight Assembly elections
The Congress High Command had assured its young members of a chance to prove themselves politically, yet nobody from the Mumbai Pradesh Youth Congress (MPYC) has been given a ticket to contest the October 13 Assembly polls.
MPYC had demanded eight seats for its members, including one for its president Sunil Ahire. An angry Ahire met Mumbai Regional Congress Committee president Kripashankar Singh at his home on Thursday in protest.
Valid reasons
Confirming that Ahire had expressed his anguish over the denial of a ticket, Kripashankar said, "I am unhappy that the Youth Congress was not given tickets, but there are reasons.

Picture Imperfect: Rahul Gandhi did not interfere with the selection of candidates in Maharashtra. |
The Kurla seat that Ahire wanted went to the NCP under the seat-sharing pact, while there were sitting MLAs in other seats."
The coordinator of Aam Admi Ka Sipahi, a programme initiated by Rahul Gandhi, was also denied a ticket.
Not their faultSurprisingly, many MPYC activists do not blame the Congress High Command. "The organisation had been in shambles under Ahire.

He has not done anything," said a youth Congress worker.
While Rahul helped select candidates from the Youth Congress in states like Bihar, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh, he did not interfere with the organisation in Maharashtra.

"The Congress has a lot of support and that may be the reason why he was not involved. But the Youth Congress is ignored in the process," said the worker.
Family affairCongress has given tickets to the children of two of their biggest names Vilasrao Deshmukh and Sushil Kumar Shinde. Pratibha Patil's son will also contest the polls.
