Raj Thackeray-led Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) on Friday launched a selfie and signature campaign in Mumbai's Parel area to protest against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, demanding his resignation.
The student wing of the party, Maharashtra Navnirman Vidyarthi Sena (MNVS) announced the protest on its X account, sharing photos of the campaign, named âSelfie With Gyanu'.
A large cutout of CEC Gyanesh Kumar has been installed and the protesters were seen clicking selfies with it.
A signature campaign was also launched by the MNVS at a college in Parel area of central Mumbai.
According to the organisers, the campaign received an enthusiastic response from students.
As part of the campaign, a cut-out of Gyanesh Kumar was put up at the college. Students were encouraged to take selfies with the cut-out and share posts on social media supporting the demand for his resignation.
They were also asked to tag the Election Commission in their posts and express their views on the issue.
The campaign aims to take the demand for the Chief Election Commissioner's resignation to a wider audience through social media and build public support for the cause, the organisers said.
Meanwhile, the Delhi Police personnel visited the place where Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke has been staying and served him a notice barring him from holding a protest at Connaught Place on Friday, hours before a planned march.
The CJP's âLehra Do Tiranga' march is scheduled to begin at 5 pm at Central Park in Connaught Place. However, police have not granted permission for the event.
Police cited prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), which restrict mass gatherings in Connaught Place and adjoining areas.
They have offered to facilitate a select group of protesters to wave the national flag at an alternative location, officials said.
A Delhi Police team visited the residence where Dipke was staying in the national capital and served him the notice in the presence of a police official.
The notice stated that prohibitory restrictions under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) were in force in and around Connaught Place.
