According to Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL), the incident took place at 10:30 pm when a staff noticed smoke at Bay No 50. The staff checked the baggage and immediately informed the authorities.

Bomb Detection & Disposal Squad (BDDS) was immediately rushed to the spot. The fire was controlled with dry chemical powder. BDDS also conducted a safety drill till the bag was declared safe.

Meanwhile, MIAL officials said that the incident had nothing to do with Air France as reported by the media.

"The Bag had an arrival tag of Air India flight AI826 and may have fallen down from the baggage trolley and could have been dragged by the tractor which may have caused the spark due to friction, thereby emitting smoke. There were no dangerous goods found," the official told MiD DAY.
