Thane Dahi Handi 2026: 56 injured, with cases including fractures and head injuries

At least 56 Govindas were injured during Dahi Handi celebrations in Thane, with the injured participants receiving treatment at the District Government Hospital in Thane and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Hospital in Kalwa, according to details in a hospital record.

The list prepared on September 5 records 22 injured Govindas at the District Government Hospital, Thane, and 34 at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Hospital in Kalwa. The injuries range from minor bruises and pain to fractures, head injuries and injuries to the limbs, shoulders, chest, back and neck.

Two Govindas suffer leg fractures

Among those treated at the District Government Hospital, two Govindas, identified as Girish Chipkar, 25, and Omkar Shinde, 25, sustained fractures to their right legs. Both were from the CP Talao area of Wagle.

Other injuries recorded at the hospital included minor back and hand injuries, leg injuries, knee and shoulder injuries, chest pain and bruising. A 32-year-old Govinda, Amit Kadam, suffered a bruise to his right ankle, while 26-year-old Dipesh Naik from Thane was reported to have experienced dizziness.

The hospital record also lists a 17-year-old Govinda, Prathamesh Giri, from Indira Nagar in Wagle Estate, with a seizure. Several participants from Jogeshwari, Mumbai, were also treated for injuries to their legs, shoulders and chest.

34 injured at Kalwa hospital

A further 34 Govindas were treated at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Hospital in Kalwa, with several suffering injuries to their heads, shoulders, legs and hands.

Among them was Nandkishor Shelar, 65, from Thane, who suffered a head injury. Three younger participants - Dinesh Bhosale, 11, Samrat Bhangare, 11, and Ayush Vansh, 12 - were also listed among those injured.

Bhosale, from Jai Bhim Nagar in Kalwa, suffered an injury to his lip, while Bhangare from Digha, Navi Mumbai, sustained an injury to his left shoulder. Vansh, from Shantinagar in Kalwa, suffered an injury to his right leg.

Injuries reported across Thane and Mumbai

The injured Govindas came from several parts of Thane and Mumbai, including Kalwa, Wagle Estate, Kisan Nagar, Balkum, Jogeshwari, Vikhroli, Goregaon, Bandra and Navi Mumbai.

At Kalwa hospital, injuries included those to the waist and neck, back, shoulders, knees, hands and legs. Riyansh Sheikh, 58, and Sanjit Verma, 30, were reported to have sustained head injuries, while 16-year-old Ansh Mishra also suffered a head injury.

The record further states that Ajay Kamble, 38, suffered a chest injury, while Mohammad Kaif, 24, sustained an injury to his right knee. Other participants were treated for injuries to their backs, necks, hands, shoulders and legs.

56 Govindas listed as injured

According to the document, the combined number of injured Govindas treated at the two hospitals stood at 56. The record does not provide details about the circumstances of each individual injury or the subsequent medical condition of those treated.
