Fire at Thane electrical transformer (Pic/Special arrangement)
A fire broke out at an electrical distribution transformer in Thane's Naupada area on Thursday night. The blaze prompted a swift response from the Fire Brigade and Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) personnel.
According to the Thane Municipal Corporation's (TMC) Disaster Management Cell, the alert regarding the blaze was received at around 10:43 pm on June 11.
As per the officials, the fire occurred at a Mahavitaran electrical distribution transformer located near the Ashwamedh Building in Bhaskar Colony at Naupada (West).
Soon after the incident was reported, MSEDCL staff and Fire Brigade personnel, along with a fire tender, rushed to the spot and initiated firefighting operations. However, no injuries were reported.
As a precautionary measure, the power supply to the transformer was first disconnected by Mahavitaran officials to ensure the safety of the firefighting team and nearby residents.
TMC's fire brigade department successfully brought the blaze under control and completely extinguished it by approximately 11:29 pm. Later authorities confirmed that the situation is under control and that no casualties or injuries were reported.
While the exact cause of the fire is yet to be known, further investigation is still underway.
The prompt coordination between the Fire Brigade and Mahavitaran personnel helped prevent the fire from spreading and averted any major damage or loss of life.
In a different scenario, a fire broke out in the meter box room of a residential building in Thane on Thursday afternoon. No injuries were reported in the incident, according to officials from the Thane Municipal Corporation's Disaster Management Cell.
The fire was reported at around 12:02 pm at Ganesh Krupa Society, a ground-plus-seven-storey residential building located in the Kashish Park area on Lal Bahadur Shastri Road near Teen Hath Naka in Thane West. Authorities said the blaze was confined to the meter box room, where electrical wiring was affected.
Following the alert, personnel from the Thane Municipal Corporation's Disaster Management Cell reached the spot with a pickup vehicle. Fire Brigade teams, equipped with a fire engine and a rescue vehicle, also responded to the incident.
Employees of the electricity distribution company were present at the site to assist with the operation. Local corporator Namrata Bhosale also visited the location.
