Maharashtra: Traffic hit at Majiwada, Thane-Nashik highway after car catches fire

A car caught fire on the Thane-Nashik Highway near Kopri Bridge on Friday, causing traffic congestion on the busy stretch near Majiwada in the district, officials said.

The fire was brought under control by the fire brigade, and no injuries were reported in the incident. Efforts were underway to restore the traffic movement, they said.

Firefighters reached the scene soon after receiving information about the blaze and worked to extinguish the fire.

The flames were successfully put out, preventing the fire from spreading to nearby vehicles.

Car destroyed

According to the Regional Disaster Management Cell (RDMC) of the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC), the car was completely destroyed after catching fire at Vijay Park near Kasarvadavali Naka in Thane on Friday evening. Officials confirmed that no one was injured in the incident.

The fire was reported at around 7.47 pm. The vehicle was travelling from Vikhroli to Lodha Amara in Kolshet when the blaze broke out, it said.

The driver and his friend noticed the fire in time and safely got out of the car before the flames spread.

Fire brigade personnel, disaster management staff, traffic police and officers from Kopri Police Station rushed to the spot. The blaze was completely extinguished by around 8.20 pm with the help of one fire engine and one rescue vehicle.

The car was extensively damaged in the fire.

After the blaze was brought under control, traffic police began removing the burnt vehicle from the road with the help of a towing vehicle to restore smooth traffic flow.

The cause of the fire was not immediately known.

Traffic affected near Majiwada

The incident led to slow-moving traffic on the expressway and the Thane-Nashik route near Majiwada.

Senior Police Inspector Dilip Patil of the Kopri Traffic Police branch and his team were deployed at the spot to regulate traffic and ensure the smooth movement of vehicles.

No injuries reported

Officials stated that no one was injured in the fire. The cause of the blaze was not immediately known.

Traffic gradually returned to normal after the fire was extinguished and the damaged vehicle was cleared from the road.
