Several parts of Thane city in Maharashtra will face phased water supply cuts for 12 days starting from January 27, 2026, the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) announced on Friday.

The water cuts are due to repair work on the 'Pneumatic Gate System' installed at the Bhatsa river barrage at Pise, which supplies water to both Thane and Mumbai.

The work is being carried out by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to increase the water level in the Bhatsa river, officials said.

During the repair period, the water level at the Pise pumping station has been lowered, resulting in a 20 per cent reduction in water supply to Thane city. As a result, water will be supplied at low pressure in several areas.

To manage the reduced supply, the civic body has planned 24-hour water shutdowns in different parts of the city on different days.

Affected area-wise shutdown

According to the schedule, released by the Thane civic body, the following are the affected areas

- 28 January: Water supply will be shut in areas including Gandhi Nagar, Subhash Nagar, Vasant Vihar, Lokpuram, Lok Upvan, Wagle MIDC, Vartak Nagar and nearby localities.

- 29 January: Areas such as Dattawadi, Bombay Colony, Mumbra Devi, Shailesh Nagar, Uday Nagar, Retibandar, Khopat and Civil Hospital areas will face a water cut.

- 30 January: Shastri Nagar, Kalwa, Kharegaon, Manisha Nagar, Atkoneshwar Nagar and Parsik Nagar will be affected.

- 31 January: Lokmanya Nagar, Indira Nagar, Savarkar Nagar, Ambewadi, Ram Nagar and Srinagar areas will have no water supply.

- 1 February: Water supply will be suspended in parts of Lokmanya Nagar, Dosti Complex, Runwal Complex, Rutu Park, Shivaji Nagar, Raheja Garden and surrounding areas.

- 2 February: Balkum, Brahmand, Rutu City, Kopri, Rabodi, Panchganga and nearby areas will face shutdown.

- 3 February: Majiwada, Manpada, Kothari Compound, Dhokali, Kasarvadavali and Anand Nagar will be affected.

- 4 to 7 February: The same cycle of shutdowns will be repeated in the above areas.

"Each shutdown will begin at 9 am and continue for 24 hours," said the officials.

Civic body appeals for public cooperation

The Thane Municipal Corporation have appealed to residents to store sufficient water in advance and use water carefully until normal supply is restored.

The civic body has also requested citizens to cooperate during the repair period.
