Several parts of Thane district in Maharashtra will face a six-hour water supply shutdown on Friday, January 30, 2026, civic officials said on Thursday.

The water cut is due to repair and maintenance work on the Thane Municipal Corporation's own water supply system, officials said, adding that citizens must take note of the disruptions in water supply.

According to the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC), a leak has been detected in the main water pipeline at Kirwali. In addition, cleaning work at the Indiranagar sump has been scheduled due to which there will be disruptions in water supply in parts of the city.

"To carry out these works, it is necessary to shut down the corporation's water supply system from 9 am to 3 pm on Friday," officials said.

During this period, water supply from the Stem Authority will continue after zoning adjustments, officials said.

Areas to be affected

According to an official statement, the water supply will remain completely shut for six hours in the following areas -

Ghodbunder Road, Vartaknagar, Rutu Park, Jail area, Gandhinagar, Rustomjee, Siddhanchal, Samtanagar, Siddheshwar, Eternity, Johnson, Indiranagar, Shrinagar, Lokmanya Nagar, Savarkar Nagar, Rupadevi Pada, Kisan Nagar and surrounding areas.

Low water pressure expected later

The Thane civic body also warned that even after supply resumes, residents may experience low water pressure for one to two days.

Civic Appeal to Residents

The Thane Municipal Corporation has appealed to citizens to store adequate water in advance and cooperate during the maintenance work.

Water cut in phases from Jan 27

In an earlier statement, the civic body had informed that parts of Thane city in Maharashtra will face phased water supply cuts for 12 days starting from January 27, 2026.

The water cuts are due to repair work on the 'Pneumatic Gate System' installed at the Bhatsa river barrage at Pise, which supplies water to both Thane and Mumbai, it had stated.

The work is being carried out by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to increase the water level in the Bhatsa river, officials had said.

During the repair period, the water level at the Pise pumping station has been lowered, resulting in a 20 per cent reduction in water supply to Thane city. As a result, water will be supplied at low pressure in several areas.

To manage the reduced supply, the civic body has planned 24-hour water shutdowns in different parts of the city on different days.
