A father-son duo, and another person were killed, while two others were injured after two speeding vans collided on a highway near Malshej Ghat in Maharashtra's Thane district, police said on Monday.
The accident occurred on Sunday morning on National Highway 61 in Murbad taluka, reported PTI.
A pickup van carrying three residents of Khedle-Talavale village collided head-on with a poultry van travelling towards Kalyan, a police official said.
The impact crushed the front cabins of both vehicles. All three occupants of the pickup van died on the spot. They were identified as Maruti Tukaram Khare (55), his son Ajit Maruti Khapare (25), and driver Ram Malu Sapate (40), the official said.

Both vehicles were speeding at the time of the crash. Following an initial inquiry, police registered a case against the poultry van driver under relevant legal provisions, Tokawade police station Assistant Inspector Sheetalkumar Naik said.
In a separate incident, a Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) bus travelling from Mumbai to Murud hit multiple vehicles near CBD Belapur after suspected brake failure on Sunday, officials said, adding that several people were injured in the incident.
The bus rammed into at least three auto-rickshaws and a car, they said.
The accident took place in the Belapur area of Navi Mumbai when the driver reportedly lost control of the bus following the alleged brake failure. The bus then crashed into the auto-rickshaws and a vehicle, causing panic among motorists and pedestrians in the area.
Soon after receiving information about the accident, police rushed to the spot and began clearing the damaged vehicles from the road.
The injured were taken to MGM Hospital in Belapur for treatment. The exact number of people injured and the extent of their injuries were not immediately available.
The accident also disrupted traffic in the area, with vehicles slowing down near the crash site as police and other personnel worked to clear the road.
Police officials who reached the spot were verifying the exact circumstances that led to the accident, including the reported brake failure. Further details are awaited.
