Two people were injured after a portion of a first-floor gallery of an old building collapsed in Thane's Wagle Estate area late on Saturday night, officials from the Thane Municipal Corporation's Regional Disaster Management Cell (RDMC) said.
The incident was reported at 10:56 pm on July 4 at Tiwari Bhavan, located opposite Mamta Bazaar, Kisan Nagar No. 3, Road No. 16, Wagle Estate, Thane West.
According to officials, a portion of the gallery outside Room No. 1 on the first floor of the building collapsed. The structure, which consists of a ground floor, two upper floors and one terrace flat, is around 45 years old.
The room near the collapsed section, owned by Suresh Panchal, was locked at the time of the incident. Officials said the remaining portion of the gallery was found to be in a dangerous condition following an inspection.
After receiving information about the collapse, officials from the Disaster Management Cell, Fire Brigade, Wagle Ward Committee, Public Works Department, electricity department and local police reached the location.
Former corporators Yogesh Jankar and Prakash Shinde, Disaster Management Officer Y M Tadvi, Wagle Ward Committee Assistant Commissioner Rajesh Sonawane, Public Works Department Executive Engineer Shailendra Chari and other officials also visited the site.

Officials said Sheikh suffered injuries to his head, shoulder and leg after a portion of the gallery fell on him. Local residents rushed him to Ashtavinayak Hospital in Wagle Estate for treatment. Thapa sustained minor head injuries in the incident.
Following the collapse, authorities vacated the entire building after the remaining structure was found unsafe. Disaster Management Cell and Fire Brigade teams cordoned off the area using safety tape to prevent any further accidents.
The debris from the collapsed portion was also cleared and moved to one side of the road.
According to officials, the ground floor of Tiwari Bhavan has three commercial shops, while the first floor has two locked rooms and the second floor has one locked room. The terrace flat, owned by Manisha Pardeshi, was occupied by two people.
