Body of man swept away in Malad drain recovered after intensive search operation

The body of 38-year-old Yogesh Verma, who was swept away after falling into a rain-swollen drain in Tanaji Nagar, Malad East, on the night of July 5, was recovered on Wednesday morning following an extensive search operation by the Kurar police and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF).

According to police, the search operation resumed at around 6 am from the spot where Verma had fallen into the drain. Teams traced the course of the stormwater drain, which eventually flows into a creek to the west of Evershine Nagar in Malad West.

At around 11.30 am, rescuers located and retrieved Verma's body from the creek, which is connected to the water channel leading towards Aksa beach. Senior Inspector Sushilkumar Gaikwad of Kurar police station confirmed the recovery of the body.

As the body was found within the jurisdiction of the Bangur Nagar police station, the local police registered an accidental death report (ADR) and shifted the body to Siddharth Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
