This Sunday over 100 vintage cars and motorcycles will compete for three spots across five categories of the prestigious Vintage and Classic Car Rally (VCCR) at Nariman Point.

This Sunday, over 100 vintage cars and motorcycles will compete for three spots across five categories of the prestigious Vintage and Classic Car Rally (VCCR) at Nariman Point. It has been organised by the Western India Automobile Association (WIAA) tou00a0which will commemorateu00a0its ninetieth year in existence this year.
The rally will see among other entrants, a 1956 Mercedes 300 SL, owned by the erstwhile royal family of Gondal in Gujarat. The car is a unique one in itself and the only model existing in India.
Nitin Dossa, executive chairman, WIAA, said, "Himanshusinh Jadeja, the Yuvraju00a0of Gondal, will drive the 1956 Mercedes 300 SL from Gondal."
Jadeja's car is the first entrant in the car category. Incidentally, his father Maharaja Jyotendrasinh Jadeja, the Maharaja of Gondal, raced Jadeja's car on the Juhu racetrack in the 1960s and 70s and it also won several trophies.
Similarly, Dossa's 1911 Triumph bike is the first entry in the bike category, and it is the oldest in its category. "It's a very special bike and I won't sell it. But I face difficulty in maintaining it, as I have to get its spare parts from Germany," said Dossa.

The oldest car in the rally will be Vijay Mallya's 1903 made Hummer. But the maximum numbers of car entries are of Nitin Dossa, who has brought in 11 cars.
"There will be some exceptional cars this year that have not been seen in any Indian rally till date," said Dossa.
Hormusji Cama, who owns the Gujarati daily Mumbai Samachar, will enter the rally with five rare vintage cars, which includes a 1928 Rolls Royce-20 HP that has only done 500 miles till date.
Hiral Dossa, who drives her Mercedes 190 SL Sports Coupe in the race, is the only woman to register in the race. "I have been participating in such rallies for the last 10 years, as I enjoy driving, and find it very adventurous," Hiral said.
Notable vintage automobile aficionados who will attend the rally this year include Dr Vijay Mallya, Dasturji Dadachandji and Fali Dhandy.
