The action is part of intensified monitoring directed by the state election commission (SEC) to ensure free, fair, and transparent polls

Voting for the BMC elections will be held on Thursday, January 15, 2026, across all 227 wards in Mumbai, while counting of votes is scheduled on the following day

Mumbai Police said comprehensive security measures have been put in place to ensure the elections are conducted in a safe and peaceful manner

Law and order arrangements have been planned under the guidance of the Mumbai Police Commissioner and the supervision of the Additional Commissioner of Police (Law and Order)

According to Mumbai Police, 10 additional commissioners of police, 33 deputy commissioners of police, and 84 assistant commissioners of police will be deployed on the day of polling. In addition, more than 3,000 police officers and over 25,000 police personnel will be stationed across Mumbai

Special units such as the state reserve police force (SRPF), quick response teams (QRT), bomb detection and disposal squads (BDDS), rapid control police (RCP) platoons, and home guards will also be deployed at sensitive and critical locations
