The fire erupted at the establishment in the Kopri area of Thane district at around 8 am, an official said
Personnel from the disaster management cell, the local fire brigade, Kopri police, and Mahavitaran (power utility) quickly rushed to the spot following the information regarding the blaze, the official said
The civic official rushed to the spot with a JCB machine, two fire engines, a rescue van, and a water tanker, said Yasin Tadvi, chief of the disaster management cell, Thane Municipal Corporation
He said the fire originated in a scrap storage area of the garage, and it spread, destroying several items in the shop
Six scrap two-wheelers, engine oil cans, and electrical wiring, among other items, were gutted in the blaze that was doused in an hour, the official said, adding that the cause is yet to be ascertained
