IN PHOTOS: Shiv Sena (UBT) leader saves injured monitor lizard at Aarey Colony

Timely action by Sandeep Gadhave, the Shiv Sena (UBT) 'Shakha Pramukh' from Mumbai's Aarey milk Colony, has helped in saving the life of an Indian Monitor Lizard which was injured in a road accident.

The monitor lizard was safely put in the basket and handed over to Forest Ranger Satish Manikrao Doifode of Goregaon beat.

The Forest Ranger will now send the monitor lizard to the wildlife veterinarian for further treatment

Wildlife lover Prasad Khandagale from NGO WWA told mid-day that the need of the hour is to have speed breakers on the internal as well as the main road in Aarey Milk Colony to prevent accidents of wild animals

He also urged that signboards suggesting wildlife crossings should be installed

The Indian Monitor Lizard is protected under Schedule 1 of the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972, and any trade involving the animal or its body parts is an offence under the Act

The lizards are usually hunted for food and also killed for their leather
