Addressing a press conference at Matoshree in Mumbai, Thackeray also demanded that the results of the recent elections in Maharashtra, West Bengal and Tamil Nadu be annulled and fresh polls conducted using ballot papers
Thackeray thanked Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi, who, according to an investigation by The Indian Express, formally objected at least 14 times over 10 months to decisions and orders related to the SIR process
The objections reportedly concerned issues including voter registration, deletion and restoration of names, and access to electoral-roll databases
He also said the courts should take cognisance of the matter and called on Sandhu and Joshi to reverse what he described as "wrong decisions" taken by the poll panel
The Election Commission has rejected suggestions of a split within the poll panel, saying major decisions, including those related to the SIR, were taken unanimously
