Here's how citizens in Mumbai are battling the COVID-19 crisis

Most people in Mumbai have been staying indoors, while many others are getting vaccinated in a bid to arrest the surge of coronavirus in the city.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has started to stamp the hands of people arriving in Mumbai from other states in a bid to ensure that they follow home quarantine guidelines.

According to BMC data, Mumbai's COVID-19 recovery rate has improved to 87 per cent, while the infection growth rate has dropped to 1.09 per cent. The case doubling rate improved to 62 days, the civic body said.

Mumbai Police Commissioner Hemant Nagrale has instructed the city police force working in the field to wear two masks and face shields to protect themselves from the COVID-19 infection. This comes after the police force have lost six personnel from different police stations to coronavirus in the second wave so far.

According to the state health department, more than five lakh people were vaccinated against COVID-19 in Maharashtra on Monday, the highest in a day so far. Vaccine doses were given to beneficiaries at 6,155 centres - 5,347 government-run and 808 private ones, the department said.

The Mumbai police have deployed special police officers outside buildings that were sealed after five or more COVID-19 cases were found there. The Mumbai police have appointed 1,100 special police officers for the COVID-19 pandemic duty, Mumbai Police PRO S Chaitanya said.
