Located at the BMC headquarters in Fort, the state-of-the-art facility integrates live feeds from thousands of CCTV cameras, Automatic Weather Stations (AWS), and high-tide gauges to monitor rainfall, waterlogging, traffic movement, and other weather-related developments in real time
The control room also functions as a coordination hub, facilitating seamless communication with the Mumbai Fire Brigade, Mumbai Police, Traffic Police, the Indian Navy, the Indian Coast Guard, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and railway authorities to ensure swift emergency response
Operating round the clock, the centre receives and processes citizens' complaints, routing them to the respective ward offices for immediate action
It also issues weather alerts, high-tide warnings and flood advisories to keep residents informed during adverse weather conditions
The Emergency Operation Centre was operational at the BMC headquarters on Friday as the city remained on alert amid heavy monsoon rainfall.
